Through-Hole Adapter Board for the SCT-013 CT

In this post I’ll present a purpose-built adapter board for the SCT-013 series current transformer: through-hole PCB, configurable burden resistor to match the specific version of the SCT-013, and a conditioned output suitable for a microcontroller input.

For the detailed logic of how the SCT-013 works in conjunction with a microcontroller, see my previous blog: https://davidegironi.blogspot.com/2016/12/ct-sensor-on-avr-atmega.html

The SCT-013 (and similar split-core current transformers) provide a safe and convenient way to monitor alternating current without cutting the conductor. However, to interface this type of CT properly to a microcontroller ADC input you need to handle a connect a few components.

An adapter board simplifies the mount of the SCT-013 (via its connector or wires) and you populate the correct resistor/burden resistor footprint, then provide a clean output to your microcontroller.
